Q & A (SAM LOUIS)

Originally hailing from the northwestern Ontario city of Thunder Bay, I fell in love with music playing shows around town in my pop/punk band before making the jump to Toronto to pursue a full-time career. There I attended Humber College for their Contemporary Music Degree Program and met/worked with some outstanding international artists.

Driftin’ is a record about feeling lost and alone surrounded by so much beauty and wonder that you can’t reach/access. Being stuck in a bigger metropolis like Toronto during this pandemic brought upon the darker emotions of Driftin’. Having the city lights in view while feeling like you’re helplessly floating farther away from it, created this weird disconnect, one that I compared to drifting through space-time.

I first wrote and recorded all the vocals for Driftin’ here in my lil Toronto bedroom, it then was co produced/mixed by LA’s hit man Shayan Amiri (A-Major, Sabi) and Jerome Renard (The Voice/Universal). The Alt R&B/Synwave track you hear now went on to be mastered by multiple grammy nominated engineer Nicolas De Porcel AKA Million Dollar Snare (Roddy Ricch, Kendrick Lamar, Dababy, SZA).
